Roman numerals superceded by webs and storms

Try to imagine a world with no post-it notes and no photocopiers. Populate that world with junior high students after gym class and the noon lunchroom food fights. Sit them around tables in an overheated library filled with dust motes. It's time for the lesson, "Plan Your Report on a Current Event Topic of Your Choice Using an Outline with Roman Numerals and 3x5 Index Cards." Add in the Readers Guide to Periodical Literature, a scary shushing librarian and his monkeys flying in alphabetical order.

Compare and contrast that geometric grid planning with an organic brainstorming and web-building process. Google searches require an education in telling fact from fiction, advertising from reliable sources. Put your Current Event in the center of a web, and spin out your questions about the facets of this topic like branches from a trunk. Filter your searches. Evaluate your sources. The currency of events is down to 24 hours max. And the librarian is probable dressed up like a favorite book character, quite likely a dystopian teen archer.
